Beauchamps High School Careers Information

Careers education, information, advice and guidance is provided to students and the school by Jane Mills; Director; Future Focus Careers Consultancy.
Jane hold the appropriate level 6 [degree] in careers education, information, advice and guidance [CEIAG] and has been working in the guidance field since 1983. She is available to meet with parents along with their child by appointment. Please contact the school office to arrange.
The following are some of the activities that she carries out with our students along with talking at assemblies, meetings with business partners and attending both local business and careers groups to ensure that the students of Beauchamps high school are aware of local and national trends in employment. Jane has recently been awarded, on behalf of the school, the National Quality in Careers Standard [QiCS] and Recognition of Quality Award [RoQA] the Essex County Council standard for excellence in careers education, information, advice and guidance.

Year 7

Introduction and induction on Internet careers programme ‘LAUNCHPAD’. This product starts the Careers programme for students to begin identifying possible careers that may suit their personality and strengths.

Year 8

Students can continue using Launchpad from any Internet linked computer or device.

Year 9

Whole year group Careers event in January to include;
• Introduction and induction on more advanced Internet careers programme ‘ KUDOS’
• Networking and interviews with business volunteers regarding option selection
• Teamwork exercise
• Options talk
1 : 1 interviews with careers guidance specialist where necessary
Careers guidance specialist available for Parent interviews at options evening and progress evenings
Students may use Kudos from any Internet linked computer or device.

Year 10

Whole year group Careers event in June to include
• CV and application form completion workshop
• Interview skill workshop
• Networking event with selected representatives from employment and post 16 / 18 sectors
1: 1 interviews with careers guidance specialist after spring half term after year 11 students post 16 places are confirmed.
Careers guidance specialist available for Parent interviews at options evening and progress evenings
Students may use Kudos from any Internet linked computer or device.

Year 11

Whole year group Careers event in October to include
• Professional mock interview for every year 11 student with verbal and written feedback to support future college, university and employment interviews.
1: 1 interviews with careers guidance specialist to every student who requests support
Careers guidance specialist available for Parent interviews at options evening and progress evenings
Students may use Kudos from any Internet linked computer or device.
Working closely with Essex County Council apprenticeship team to support students wishing to take this route into employment and training
Building links with local business to support employment opportunities.

Sixth Form

1: 1 interviews with careers guidance specialist to every student who requests support
Drop in session offered period 5 every Wednesday for Sixth Formers to see careers specialist without the need for appointment.
Emails sent to every student informing of events and information important to their planning process for post 18 opportunities
Working closely with Essex County Council apprenticeship team to support students wishing to take this route into employment and training
Organising speakers to visit school and talk to students about opportunities post 18
Building links with local business to support employment opportunities.
