Social Studies at Beauchamps<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Spring 1: Internet Safety<\/p>\n

As part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding, this half-term will promote online safety both inside and outside of school. We will explore areas such as staying safe online, as well as the impact that social media may have and we will explore the connection between social media and mental health. The Year 7 Social Studies curriculum will include some lessons looking at online safety. Year 9 will be examining the influence of the media, with consideration of ideas such as \u2018echo chambers\u2019 and the spreading of disinformation and misinformation through social media feeds and the role influencers may play in this.<\/p>\n

Our shared school vision includes promoting mutual respect and courtesy and so we will also highlight the impact that social media can have on peer on peer relationships as well. This will all tie in with Safer Internet Day in February – the annual themes chosen for this by saferinternet.org.uk.<\/p>\n

Safer Internet Day 2025 will take place on the 11th of February 2025, based around the theme \u2018Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online’.<\/p>\n

In exploring this theme, we will assess the real scale of this issue and allow young people to share their experiences and ideas on how to tackle the problem. We\u2019ll build on the important work being done to raise awareness of issues such as: online financial sextortion and we\u2019ll also consider the future of scams, answering questions such as:<\/p>\n
