Reporting Absences If your child is going to be late into school/or they need to leave school early for any reason, please could you provide them with a covering note. They will need to sign in and out at Student Reception and will be asked to provide a note. Students should not contact home asking to be collected if they are unwell. They need to visit the Medical Room or see a Senior Member of Staff first, parents will then be contacted by a member of staff. If students are not in lessons and we have received no notification of absence, the school will telephone home to ascertain their whereabouts. If your child is going to be absent for whatever reason, we would ask you to telephone the school.
Requesting Holidays As you may be aware from the press, as of 1 September 2013 the Department for Education (DfE) removed the right of Headteachers to grant leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Requests for leave of absence for any student in exceptional circumstances can still be made to the school. Consideration of requests will be made on an individual basis and specific family circumstances will continue to be taken into account. Examples of exceptional circumstances could include events such as weddings and funerals, rather than periods of holiday, and we would urge parents to continue to communicate and discuss individual circumstances which might require authorisation for absence from school for a variety of reasons.
