What our Early Career Teachers Say…
Mrs Carapuco: Science
Education background: I first gained Graduate Degree in Biology major in Microbiology and Genetics (FCUL, Portugal) and went on to achieve a PhD in Biology (Nova University of Lisbon, Portugal) before moving into industry
Experience before teaching: I was a research Scientist in France and Portugal before taking on the role of Manager of Biomedical Research Centre in Lisbon. I have also worked as a Technical Translator and Freelance consultant. Amongst this I took on some tutoring roles and worked as an English Teacher for pre-elementary and elementary school in Portugal and this is where I discovered my passion for teaching
Teacher training pathway: Assessment Only Route leading to Qualified Teacher Status
Why you applied to teach at Beauchamps:
I became aware of Beauchamps’ good reputation through friends with established contacts to the school. Upon investigation I realised they were looking for trainees to teach Science and jumped at the chance to train here.
Proudest teaching moment so far: Inspiring several students (Y7s, Y8s, Y12s) to produce great Science projects to display or share in Science lessons.
Mr Harris: Maths
Education background: I studied my GCSEs and A-Levels at Beauchamps. At A-Level, I studied Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Geography, and immediately left after completion to study Maths at the University of Essex. After receiving a First-Class Honours Degree, I started training to become a Maths teacher.
Experience before teaching: This is my first job, so I have no prior work experience. However, before becoming a teacher, I volunteered at Beauchamps between semesters during my time at University and completed an internship with BEC SCITT in the summer of 2019.
Teacher training pathway: After completing my degree, I trained with BEC SCITT. This involved 4 days teaching experience at Beauchamps and one day off-site to be trained in the theory (both pedagogical and subject-based).
Why you applied to teach at Beauchamps: Beauchamps really is like a family. I always felt welcome whenever I returned to volunteer or train here, so it never occurred to me to apply to another school.
Proudest teaching moment so far: Becoming a Statistics Co-ordinator in my ECT2 year is my proudest moment so far. It is very rewarding to be trusted with extra responsibilities so soon into my teaching career!
